SEEKING SOLITUDE

How to avoid the congestion

For all the bad reports and negative opinions about crowding and boats, Temagami is still a canoeist's paradise if you know when, where and how to go.

Lake Temagami

It is a spectacular lake with old-growth red and white pine, island nirvanas, lookouts from its hills, back bays and virgin shoreline. But in July and August, it has become a wilderness canoeist's nightmare with motorboats, houseboats, cottages, lodges and heavily-used campsites. It is a quieter lake in June and September. And can be avoided completely in July and August by using alternate access.
