Olajos elected president of Friends

There were big changes in the Friends of Temagami executive over the weekend at the AGM at Smoothwater Lodge.

Veteran activist Bob Olajos succeeded Alex Broadbent as president. The election added a lawyer, a First Nations elder and an ex-MNR manager to the board.

Broadbent served as president for six years. He remains on the board and manages map production and publication.

Families of missing live in limbo

There is a good story in Waterloo's The Record on the pain felt by families of missing children, including Maureen and Don Trask. Their son Daniel has been missing in Temagami for two years.

Does the punishment fit the crime?

That is a question asked by Bob Olajos of Friends of Temagami when he saw this story on BayToday.ca. Olajos edits FOT's twitter feed.

New map: Florence Lake

With the addition of the Florence Lake map, twenty-fifth in the series, half of Temagami is now covered by interactive maps. These show historic sites, points of interests, viewpoints, access points, campsites and portages.

Every map is created after recent travel on the ground. Things change, particularly with portages and campsites, so everything gets mapped from scratch and GPS'd for precision, using existing maps for reference only.
